Making money is something that everyone is looking for in some way or another. These tips are best suited for auto mechanics, but I guess anyone can get something from it.
I know an auto mechanic who´s business is a bit slow at the moment and he asked for tips of how to make extra money in the spare time.
There is a world of money making opportunities available for auto mechanics, outside the garage as well.Just like any other job, you have the ability to turn your skills into other money making ventures.Taking a look at the available opportunities cannot hurt.
For auto mechanics, one of the best ways to earn extra money is to do work on the side. Many people hate to take their car to the dealership for service. They would probably be more than happy to bring the car to your for service, if you could do it outside the dealership. You could market yourself as an independent auto mechanic and earn a very good extra income in a very short time period.
You could also consider becoming a mechanic that inspects used cars as a third party, helping people who are thinking of buying a used car.Your job would be to check the car that everything is in order.
This is similar to becoming an independent mechanic, but now you would specialize more in the purchase of used cars. This is a big market that still has growth potential.
As an auto mechanic, you are an expert at what you do.You know how to fix up cars to make the run better.Fixing up cars and reselling them for a profit would bring you a lot of money if you did all the work your self.Your only costs would be the original purchase and any spare parts. The profit would be quite large because there would be no labor costs.
There are many unique ways for auto mechanics to make money, all it takes is some creativity. You can do a lot by using your current skills and resources as capital, and you can apply that to almost every niche possible.
It pays to keep your eyes open and look for opportunities, you never know when you need to make some extra money.

My mom’s boyfriend actually owns and operates his own shop. With the economy and high gas prices — his business has been slowing down. People can barely afford to put gas in their cars, much less spend extra money on repairs. It’s really an unfortunate situation.
Auto mechanic jobs are always thriving. The reason is that almost everyone in the U.S. drives a car. cars machines usually breaks down. and this is a fine opportunity for the car mechanics to thrive on their business. Thanks for sharing this article with us.Will be back for more updates.
Yeah and no. My buddy is having a real hard time finding a job in New Jersey. In this economy and with the internet people are just doing repairs themselves, at least the the easy to moderate stuff. When money isnt tight people spend to have others do stuff but not in this economy!
One of my uncles was a mechanic and he always says one of the things he hates about his job is to reach to people in order to repair their cars. You are right when you pointed out that mechanics prefer to have the cars in their garage directly to look in to rather than moving to places to repair them.
Believe it or not, more people are bringing their vehicles to dealerships for repairs. The reason is simple, there is so many computers on today’s cars it’s quicker for a dealer to diagnose the problem, rather that pay a mechanic an hourly rate to diagnose a problem.
I do agree with mike. And if you know how to make a good strategies in promoting your shop then your client will increasing.
I disagree, people are taking their cars to smaller/independent garages as there is a recession and they are looking to pay less
to mike, i am a mechanic at an independent shop and we are not paid hourly, it is strictly commission, if i found a mechanic position that paid hourly i would do my best to get it. for the last few weeks i have done nothing but sit around at the shop as business is slow. if i was paid an hourly wage i wouldnt be behind on all of my bills.
As a 2nd year apprentice. i have been in the trade for 4 years. i have worked on honda’s, toyota’s, lexus’s, acura’s, ford’s,hyundai’s and many more.
i am going into my final year of schooling and there is a huge problem with the automotice market.
Companies dont want to pay their mechanics for what they are worth.
and it is not that easy to find “side jobs”.
I believe the automotive world will crash, no one would like to be fixing cars anymore because it doesnt pay. a mechanic barely makes 60grand a year , while 10 years ago a shitty mechanic was making a easy 70 grand a year doing nothing.
This is why i am leaving the trade as soon as i finish my schooling. i need that diploma to get into university for mechanical engineering.
Well, I agree your points to make money. But certainly, only your points holds true for an auto mechanic and not for an IT professional like me. LOL
As the life already sucks fulltime in office, even without having time to laugh or sit, visualizing me doing spare time works are unimaginable of course. Yuck!
At least, may the auto mechanics enjoy their work, in their shops and do their spare time works happily!
Auto mechanics will always be in high demand as people need transportation and not everyone can afford to buy a new car or take it to a dealership. The best way to promote your shop or mechanical service is to hit the immediate neighborhood with some flyers or get the word out. Knock on a few local businesses and let them know your setup. Plus, offer the businesses a service like picking up their cars while at work and have it ready when they are off.
My dad was an air-cooled VW mechanic for a dealership for years. When you mentioned, “For auto mechanics, one of the best ways to earn extra money is to do work on the side. Many people hate to take their car to the dealership for service.” This is very true. My dad figured out that he could supplement his income by doing repairs out of our home garage on new and used cars and after a while he was making more than he was making during the week at the dealership.
Auto mechanics should focus on providing the best quality at reasonable prices and car owners will will come back when needing the service again. I know this because I worked at a Kia dealership and we had many happy Kia owners coming back to us thanks to our professional work.
Just my two cents, kia fan
Any business can advertise, but you’ll do better with a shop that friends, family or acquaintances recommend. It’s a business that has proven it can satisfy customers. And it might not be the biggest or best-known shop in your area.
