How To Use The Google Keyword Tool

by Tom on January 31, 2009

The Google Keyword Tool is a great tool for internet marketers looking to find high paying keywords and get ideas for keywords they can use in their next article.

Internet marketers use it also to see the monthly search volume for each term and synonyms, this information helps them determine what keywords to target in their Adwords campaigns. When logging in to your Adwords account you will get up to 800 results and will also see how much one click is worth, this helps you determine if the keyword is worth bidding for or not.

The keyword tool can also be used to optimize old blog posts and articles you have written if they are not getting attention in the search engines. This can be done easily by choosing “website content” and adding the direct URL to your article. The keyword tool will go through your article and suggest keywords you can use. Then you just change a few words in the article and perhaps add a different title. This should help your articles rank better.

Google keyword tool was recently updated to make it even more effective. Here is a instructional video for doing Adwords research properly.

I have recently started using the Google tool over wordtracker, and I find that it greatly overestimates search volume, but otherwise seems very comprehensive. For a free tool, however, you can’t beat it.

You have some good tips here for the Google keyword tool. I often put my competitors websites in the tool to see what Google says their site is all about. With this information I often find new keywords I never thought about.
