How To Spice Up A Boring Blog

by Tom on February 20, 2010

Have you come across a [Tag-Tec]boring blog[/Tag-Tec]? I have many times.I donīt like reading about what the writer had for dinner and what the weather is like, I get nothing out of that kind of information. In order to spice up a boring blog is it necessary to focus on the visitors to make it interesting and fresh.Posting a different version of the same article is not going to help.

The first thing to do when spicing up a blog to make it interesting is to allow commenting.I canīt remember how many times I have come across a blog that donīt allow comments or requires the visitor to sign up in order to comment on a blog post.Sure, you might not like all comments that people make or you are afraid of spamming, but the truth is that blog comments makes a boring blog interesting, gets you new content and new ideas for future posts.

Using pictures and videos is another way to spice up a boring blog.If you have difficulties coming up with a great post for the day, head over to YouTube and search for a suitable video you can post on your blog.Pictures makes a blog look interesting and what could be easier than grabbing your digital camera and taking some photos. This makes connecting with your readers on a more intense level. They will be more entertained and you will have a more interesting blog.Be careful not to overdo it and place the pictures on appropriate places. It is also good to know that having lots of pictures on your blog will make it slow to load.People will not stick around for longer than 1 minute waiting for your blog to load.

Being personal is another way to spice up a boring blog.Always write like you were talking to a great friend. It does not matter if you have one or two spelling errors, it just makes it more interesting.Boring blogs are often written like text books or manuals and I think that is a huge mistake.Instead, let your personality shine through. This is a way of making your blog “one of a kind”, unique.

When you spice up a boring blog you will come a long way by just writing information that is useful, makes people laugh, contemplate, think and then act on the blog post by leaving a comment and sharing it on social media sites.

How could I spice up this blog? Leave a comment.

Great tips for spicing up a blog. One thing to remember though is some people set out to make boring blogs so that people click on the links on the blog instead of staying on the blog. There are a lot of marketers who use this technique when it comes to blogging as well.

Hi Tiffany, thanks for commenting. You are right, I have seen blogs that are boring on purpose just to get Adsense clicks.I think that is the wrong approach.

If a blog doesn’t have personality, it just won’t be engaging. I like a lot of the tips you mentioned but i’d like to add one more. Bloggers can write in a way that encourages visitors to comment. I don’t mean come right out and ask a question that you want answered but if you have a strong opinion about something and you let it be known, i can bet others will take more interest and want to voice their opinion as well. :)

Nice post Tom.

Good tips. I know what you mean about the comments. When I come across a blog that requires you to register before leaving comments, I skip it. You need to make it easy for people to comment.

Thanks too for the reminder about using pictures on your blog. I keep forgetting about that:-)
