How To Market Your Blog In 2009

by Tom on January 11, 2009

Marketing your blog in 2009 can be a little different from what you are used to.Off course, your number #1 priority is to write content and update your blog regularly. Is there something you can do differently?

Here are a few things I will focus on in 2009:

2.Writing more in-depth articles:
Articles on general topics donīt work too well.A good article is in-depth and explains exactly how to do something, provides a solution to a problem. In other words, becoming an expert in a smaller niche area. The traffic you get will be more targeted because people who search for these things are all ready interested in the topic.

3.Answering more comments on my blog from now on:
If my visitors take the time to post a constructive and helpful comment to a blog post I wrote, they deserve to get an answer and at least a “thanks for commenting” note from me.Answering comments will also build up a small discussion around the article and I will get new content added from the commenterīs which will give me new ideas for future blog posts.Answering comments is also a way to get repeat traffic.

4.Introducing other bloggers to The Home Business Archive by guest posting:
Use the contact page to submit your guest post to The Home Business Archive. You will get a new audience for your blog and links back, I will get fresh content.A classic Win-Win situation. Click here to submit your guest post now!

Another way of doing this is to write a blog carnival post by asking your friends to send you a small paragraph of a blog post they have written earlier. You compile this into a blog post and link back to your friends original posts.

Here is a good example of a carnival blog post about link building, blogging tips and traffic secrets.

5.Asking my audience what kind of information they want to read:
This is something that many blogger ignore. You can publish a poll on your blog asking a question about what kind of information the visitors want, or you can visit forums in your niche to read what the hot topics are and write a post about it.However, my favorite way of doing this is to simply post a short question at the end of an article asking for a comment.

What do you think? Please leave a comment.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the linkback. Yes my carnival blog post turned out quite well and thanks for your support too. A couple of my friends were disappointed in not seeing my invite on time so they have to wait for the next carnival. The thing is it’s a win-win so you won’t be short of people who want to participate when you ask.

Very informative post, I think there are hundreds of ways to promote a blog, but i believe bloggers can get drowned in the sea of marketing and losing focus on whats important….blogging, I do believe also that content is king and there is no substitute for a good post and everything else is secondary, I promote my blog through blogcatalog, twitter, facebook and directories, I have yet to experiment on social bookmarking sites as I do not seem to get a response from them, but hey my blog is young so still lots to do. thanks for the post
