How To Keep Your Visitors At Your Blog Longer

by Tom on June 13, 2008

There is a huge difference between driving traffic to your blog and keeping the visitors at your blog once you get them there. Once you manage to get people to visit your blog you want them to stay as long as possible. This will obviously give you more time to persuade them to buy your products, sign up for your newsletter, or whatever you want them to do.Try these tips to make your blog more attractive for your visitors.

1. Your visitors are impatient. This means that your blog must load as quickly as possible. A few seconds does not count in the real world, but online it seems to have a HUGE difference. If it takes 10 seconds for a site to load, it simply is too long and people will go elsewhere. To speed up your blogs loading time you need to skip all the heavy graphics and pictures. At least, make the pictures smaller so they load more quickly.

2.Provide unique content. If you can provide content that is interesting and cannot be found anywhere else people will visit your blog to read it, and come back for more.

3.Make your blog as easy to read as possible by making the text dark color and the back ground light color.

4.Let your visitors know what to expect from your blog at the very beginning, this can prevent them from leaving too soon. The name of your blog should give a hint of what to expect, but a short description at the top of your blog is not a bad idea either.

5.Make your blog as easy to navigate as possible.Put the newsletter subscription sign up box, your RSS feed subscription and your ads at prominent places above the fold.Make it as easy as possible for your visitors to sign up.

6.Use common sense. If you can think of anything else to make it easier for your visitors, then do so, it all helps.
