Getting incoming links to your website from other sites is very important for your ranking in search engines, but it has a huge difference what the anchor text is.
For instance, when I leave a comment on a blog or as a sig file in a forum I put a good keyword “marketing tips” after my name.
When people search for “marketing tips” in the search engines, there is a bigger possibility that my blog will show up in the results rather than if I only used my name as anchor text.

Linking and anchor text is what drives the internet search engines these days. The best site in the world that has links that don’t contain keywords won’t go anywhere
Hi Kristy, you are absolutely right.
Without links you are wasting your time if trying to rank in Google. The more you leave a trail the better chance you have in being found and obtaining natural backlinks as well.
Hi Danny, thanks for commenting. You are absolutely right.
Danny, I agree that any link will add to your trail and get more natural backlinks, but this takes entirely too much time. However, it is almost impossible to get good anchor text backlinks on blogs even with good comments these days. I never leave comments without adding value, but still have a hard time getting anchor text backlinks, though this is extremely important.
The few anchor text backlinks I have gotten for my bible study website, and I mean few, have almost pushed me to the top of the ranking for the search terms “bible study”, which is pretty competitive and it has worked in under 1 1/2 years. Anchor text backlinks are about as more important than no anchor text backlinks as the ratio of 1:100,000. At least that is the case with my experience, so I would rather have one backlink with exact anchor text for my backlink as to have 100,000 backlinks with my name only in a blog comment. I don’t see what the big deal is anyway if a comment adds value, we should share love, but many do not see it that way, so we are left with important decisions as to how to get these links.
