How Can Social Bookmarking Benefit Your Home Business?

by Tom on January 29, 2008

Social bookmarking is a trend that is getting popular with a lot of online home business owners, because it is an easy and very effective way of getting targeted traffic to your website. Targeted traffic will eventually turn into sign ups on your opt-in list, affiliate programs, sales of products and services.

As a member of social bookmarking sites you can add links as bookmarks. Users can categorize their links, personalize the links by adding comments, and allow other people to see your bookmarks so they too can make comments and vote on a good story depending on the social site as they all work a bit different.

Social bookmarking is beneficial to your online home business because the traffic that is generated is viral.Your bookmarks are categorized according to your tags, and the people who are searching for similar tags or keywords will click your bookmarks and visit the websites for more information. People are interested to know more about you and will find their way to your website by visiting the profile page at the social sites.

This generates valuable targeted traffic to your website and at the same time give a boost in the search engine rankings. It is beneficial also because it is free to participate, all it takes is a little time everyday. It is very convenient too as your bookmarks will be online and accessible from anywhere in the world.

For instance, you could join some of the popular social sites as Mybloglog, Mashable and Mixx. Set up your accounts and edit your profiles, add some information about yourself, add a picture and the URL to your website. You can also add links to other favorite sites in your profile.

The URL to your own website is the most important part to add as people will visit, but it is also important to tell other users about your interests. It is easy to get targeted people to visit your website when like-minded people read more about you in your profile.

Browse around the sites and vote for articles you like and think add value, add other users as friends and build your communities.Do this on a daily basis and you build the popularity of your profile. As the popularity of your profile grows, the more visitors you will get to your website.

Every social site measures the profile popularity differently, but the most important thing is to bookmark and vote on other peoples sites, not just your own.If you only bookmark your own websites and blog posts, you could get banned because this could be seen as advertising.

The next time you write a post on your blog that you think is useful for others to read, ask your friends at the social sites to bookmark it for you and vote. Remember to do the same for your friends at the social sites too.

If you constantly bookmark your own posts, there is a huge risk that people will see your account as a spam account and you can get banned from the site.

Social Bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us are great for sharing your pages and others.

I think you should take this post a little further and make it a tutorial and give a few bookmarking sites.

Keep the great content coming. We love it. :)

Thanks for the post. I’ve got some useful info. about social book marking stuff. But, I hope social book marking and link building are two different concepts. but, some times they may match.
Any way coolest stuff.

Good advice to not just bookmark your own sites. Every other one or so should be someone elses.
