I think the advice to “help people” is the biggest thing. Although blogs seem to be slowly replacing the olf forums, many people are still using the forums around the web to find answers for various problems. I tend to look for answers by doing a search and often end up on a blog or forum with some useful content to send me in the right direction. This often helps me find the answers I’m looking for and I always go back and post the solutions I found. I find that I end up getting a lot of responses, link-backs, and natural click throughs to my site this way.
