Running a home business successfully requires some space. In some cases you need to have your own home office where you will have everything you need and can work without any distractions. With some key ideas and concepts you can build your home office in the smallest of homes and make it work.
What do you need in your home office?
The first step is to plan your home office by figuring out exactly what you need, and this again depends on what you are doing. Perhaps you donīt need a large filing cabinet and a huge desk with a phone system, fax and a printer. You should go with the minimum you need and look for smaller combination products instead, all-in-one printer with copier and fax machine, that take up as little space as possible.Your desk should have a lot of storage space. You will need an electrical outlet and phone line for your internet connection.
What is the best place for your home office?
Now you need to think of Where should you put your office space and if you can work in that space without being bothered. The living room is perhaps not the best place for your home office because the rest of the family would like to watch TV, and it is easy to get distracted there, so perhaps setting up your home office in the bedroom is a better choice.Make sure you can easily run what you need to and from your workspace without inconveniencing anyone.
You have to find a space that will allow you to work or it will never be a place you can use. That can be hard when you are limited on space, but you can do it with some careful thinking.
Making the best of it:
The hardest part is to make your home office work and that you feel comfortable working in it.As you get working you will develop your own sense of organization and function that will allow you to use the office to its maximum benefit. You will be able to make it work as long as you are dedicated. You just have to avoid getting frustrated.
If you are serious about working at home, you will be able to make it work. You just have to plan carefully and be focused on making it successful.Do not let a lack of space bring you down.Anyone can work at home as long as they have the drive.
Do you have a separate home office or do you take your laptop with you everywhere you go? Leave a comment.

Great article Tom, and I completely agree that an office in the family room or living is almost impossible to use due to distractions.
As of right now, my main office is in the bedroom, it may not be the healthiest thing for sleeping, but it does cut down on distractions in a large way.
The best place is in the loft
