Building A Business By Building Relationships

by Tom on September 18, 2008

When it comes to building a business, building relationships can be extremely beneficial.Of course you can create a visually appealing web site or produce fresh and enticing content. But it is the people that will decide whether your online business is worthy of visiting and sticking around at.

A huge part of having success with internet marketing is the marketing part.If you do not have people coming to your web site, it is virtually impossible to make money online. You cannot sit back and expect people to find their way to your site. You could have the best web site on the internet, but if you do not promote it nobody will know about it.

There are several benefits to building relationships as you promote your web site. One problem entrepreneurs have is opening up and showing their true self. You cannot hide behind your company name because people have no way of knowing who they are working with. But if you build relationships, people know who they are working with.

With so many web sites and businesses online, it can be difficult to determine which company to go with regardless of what niche you are looking at.This is where you can separate yourself from the rest of the competition.Take the time to open up and show people who you really are.

In doing so, people will see that they matter to you. They will not be just another prospect you are trying to convert to a customer.Instead, they will see that you care about them and are trying to better them rather than just take their money.

In addition, the more people talk with you the more they will begin to respect you.Give them the time of day and listen to what they have to say as well. This is the ultimate sign of respect.Over time, you will build a relationship and people will feel like they can trust you. And when it comes to having success with an online business, trust and respect are crucial.

There are several ways you can go about building relationships online. The two most effective methods are posting in forums and posting in a blog. The reason for this is because it allows you to open up and get away from the small business owner image.Instead, you can talk casually and really get to know people.

If you are looking for a way to generate more customers to your online business, building relationships is your answer. It gives you the opportunity to gain people’s respect and trust while showing you truly care about them. There truly is no better way to build a business.

Great post there. I myself own my own online business and would actually like to talk to you sometime. You are absolutly correct when you state that building relationships is a vital role.
Connecting with potential clients is the best way to bring in more sales and jobs.

This is completely, and utterly true Lindstrom, but just make sure that you’re creating an on-topic relationship, rather than an off-topic one.

I’ve seen so many people try to do build a relationship with their customers, but it turns out to be an off-topic relationship, which can hurt your business even more, and make it harder to gain any profit.

For example, if you were the owner of a business that revolves around pets, than you should be aiming to create a relationship with other people who also want to talk about pets. But if you begin to start to have a conversation about gas prices, and that’s the only thing you’re talking about, you’re creating an off-topic relationship.

Hi Matthew, thanks for commenting again. This is something many online marketers don´t understand, that you need to build relationships. One of the easiest ways to do so is to join social sites and start visiting others blogs and making comments.

Nice post, Tom. I’m old enough to remember the corner grocery where the proprietor might even deliver your groceries to your home. Same with the dry cleaner and the pharmacy. That’s real relationship building, and it worked. I’m just seeing now how the Internet can re-fuel that old-time tradition. Makes me feel like a kid again! Martin

Hi Martin, thanks for stopping by.There is a good rule to follow, and it works really well in internet marketing as well.”You have to give others what they want first, and you will get everything you want!”

Nice post.

One of the things that I learned long ago, which I find hard, is to take the first step. Most people won’t do that, so if you’re not out there building your network you’re going to have a lonely blog/business.

Thanks

Tom,

I agree with you absolutely. I use my blog more than forum to build a relationship with other bloggers. That also gets me lots of backlinks too so it’s killing 2 birds with one stone. I think building a relationship through blog commenting also helps to make working in this blogosphere a little less impersonal don’t you think. I also think having more friends this way helps your learning process. BTW did you change your theme…very nice!

I think relationships are the foundation of everything in life. I think if people can successfully build relationships outside of business, then building relationships in business should be a walk in the park. After all in the end, it is only human to human interactions.

Till then,

Kurt

Very well done. I would have to say that many businesses don’t build a relationship nowadays. Most are focused on building a relationships to make a sale, but they need to maintain that relationship to ensure future business from that client. Definitely a practice that has lost its importance.
