7 Psychological Marketing Triggers

by Tom on February 10, 2010

There is a lot of psychological marketing triggers.Have you ever wondered why some products sell better than others? Here is 7 possible reasons I can think of.

1.The reason for buying
If you tell your visitors the reason why you are offering a 50% discount or limiting the number of products you are selling, tell them why you do it.You will not increase your sales if you are a mystery for your visitors.Honesty builds trust and they will be more likely to buy from you.

2.Be very specific
What sounds more believable? “How I made $2,000 in a month online” or “How I made $2,089.51 in a month online working only 94 minutes per day”.It is good to know that people are skeptic and if you can be as specific as possible it is more likely that people will believe what you say.General round numbers are not as convincing.

3.Raise curiosity
If you tell people not to click on the banner on your website, you can be sure they will click on it because they want to see where it leads to.Curiosity works really well in email marketing.Make sure the subject line of your email is a question or something that raises curiosity. This is a great way to get email results.

4.Fear of losing
Fear of losing is a bigger motivator than the desire of gaining something. This is why limited offers and deadlines work so well in internet marketing.Limit the products you sell or offer a 3 day special.A short limited time offer will often make people act now.

5.Ask questions
Ask a lot of questions, this will start a conversation with your visitors and they often become more responsive to your message.Which of these headlines grabs your attention? “Are you making money online?” or “How do you make at least $3,000 per month online?” For the first question you would probably get either a “yes” or a “no” as an answer, but for the second question you would get a lot of tips and advice which starts a conversation.

6.Tell a story
People love stories so there is no reason why this trigger would not work in marketing as well.A lot of marketers tell a story about them self because this builds credibility and motivates people to buy.

7.Problems
Everyone buys products to solve a particular problem.Present the problem to your visitors and agitate it so they will feel the pain of the situation.Tell your visitors how it feels and spell it out for them.Only when you have your visitors interest you can present your product and your solution to the problem.

Some wonderful information. I especially enjoyed the ‘be very specific’ part. As being specific in marketing is a major key.
