Free means you do not have to pay for a product, service or information. I appreciate when marketing gurus and successful freelancers give away their knowledge and experience in a free report.I can print it, study it, get the most out of it.
On the flip side are the posers, affiliate marketers disguised as experts. These people provide a free report if you just type in your name and e-mail address. Seems harmless, right? Check your inbox, open your report and what do you find? I’ve received several useless reports, rehashed, poorly written information. So, now I’m mad that I wasted 15 minutes of my time.
But it doesn’t end there. These phony Internet connoisseurs don’t just provide you with one piece of trash. They send you a multitude of it several times per week, top secret tactics sure to help you make $10,000 in the next two hours. All you have to do is pay $49.99 for the information. It reeks of scam, doesn’t it? At some time or another, you click that unsubscribe button hidden at the bottom of every e-mail and hope you buried that spam.
When free is not free
You don’t become an authority source with reworked, worthless information. You certainly lose credibility if you take advantage of a person’s e-mail address by sending e-mail after e-mail of blatant buy it now messages.Sure, the recipient did not have to pay for this information with money. But they are paying for it in time. And let’s face it.Our time is more valuable than money.
The moral of the story is to always offer something helpful to your potential customers. You want them to buy something from you, but if they never do, they should never feel like they wasted time on you.Just because they don’t shell out cash for you doesn’t mean they won’t recommend you to their friends, especially if you’re providing them with something worthwhile.
