I think you’re pretty well on the mark. I know when I look at the stats that quite a few of my visitors use a translator to read my blog. I suppose that it’s some sort of browser plugin or something. I imagine that those who don’t have that plugin would love another option.
Of course the question remains as to how accurate those translations are.

The Google translator tool has dramatically improved over the last 3 years. I remember when I first moved to China; the translations from English to Chinese were unusable for any complex document. When I tried to translate some of my blog posts into Chinese, I could tell that the Chinese translation was not the same meaning as my blog post in English. (I speak Chinese)
When I tried using the tool about a year ago, the translations were vastly improved especially with the Syntax and Grammar. Now I use the tool so often that I don’t need an assistant to translate my emails anymore. For blogs, the Google translate tool is great because it can expand your visibility, but I would still suggest having a person read the translation if you need to use that copy for serious business purposes where large sums of money are involved.
Google Translate is getting better and better, however, for anything commercial, you are always better off using a professional service, who will ensure that there are no spelling and grammar errors, as they still exist with amateur and online translators. This is obviously critical for any important business documents, especially anything legal.
However cheap and cheerful they seem, you wouldn’t know if they’re 100% correct unless you are 100% fluent in the language you wish to translate to, and then you wouldn’t be using an online translator in the first place!
The google translator tool is vastly improved and I use it often these days. I would be lost without it. It seems to be quite accurate.
