4 Ways To Promote Your Blog Using E-mail Listings

November 26, 2009 by Tom Lindstrom · 2 Comments

Connections are everything when it comes to survival in the blogosphere.Getting links and Tweets from loyal readers means a lot when you are promoting your blog and trying to increase the traffic.

Another excellent way to boost your blogs traffic is to use e-mail listings, names and e-mail addresses of people who might be interested in becoming regular recipients news and information from you.

Here are 4 useful tips of how to promote your blog using e-mail listings.

1.Target!

If this is your first time you need to promote a blog, then do it right from the beginning. You must determine what your market is, what type of readership you need to focus on and what type of visitors you want to your blog.

-What do you regularly write about?
-What is your main subject and sub-topics?
-What kind of people would like to read your blog regularly?
-What kind of topics would they enjoy?
-Once they are at your blog, how long would they stay?
-Would they leave a comment on your post?
-Are they willing to promote your blog to others?

With a targeted e-mail listing, the answer to these questions is a resounding yes.

It is quite simple really, the market for your blog is already out there.Your job is to let them know you have a blog so they can visit you.

By focusing on promoting your blog to highly targeted e-mail listings, you can avoid marketing to that segment of blog visitors that:

A. Are totally uninterested in what your blog has to offer.
B. Are only partly interested and cannot be relied on to stay for long
C. Have vague interests and may or may not be willing to participate or sign up for your promotions.

2. Be relevant!

You need to offer relevance at all times. If you are unable to use relevance in your invitations it is like throwing thousands of invitations to a violin concerto full of wresting fans.Sure, you might get a few that are willing to give your invite a try, but the results will be poor and will not compensate the time and effort you have put into it.

3.Be clear!

You must be clear about your motives, tell the people on your e-mail listings in clear terms what your blog is about, what you offer your readers and how they can respond.Mystery and vague terms is not the way to go.Your e-mail members have lots of other options, if you cannot be clear they will go somewhere else.

4. Allow the possibility to opt-out!

Allow people to opt-out if they wish to do so.It is polite and shows that you are a professional. If you don´t offer the opportunity to opt-out, it seems like you are desperate for readers.

To gain respect and eventually, a loyal following for your blog, promote it with your visitors’ interests in mind.

Thank you for the information and tips are very useful. True once in the article above that the network is critical to the success of an internet marketing program. In conducting internet marketing needs to run a wide network both through the forum or email. Friendship will be established, one form of a friendship between a blogger is a link exchange program

You make some excellent points with this post. I particularly like your take on being relevant. You’re absolutely right on how futile it is to be chasing the wrong audience. (Loved the analogy).
