5 Reasons Why Your eBay Auctions Fail

February 2, 2009 by Tom Lindstrom · 3 Comments

If you are a first time seller on eBay, there is a high possibility that you will fail. Many people fail on eBay auctions time and time again never understanding why. They have done the research to find the perfect item, got the auction set up right, but they don“t get any bids.eBay is a huge market place with lots of sellers who run auctions, there are specific things you must do to be successful. Why do people fail at eBay auctions?

Reason 1: Selling an item that is not in high demand.
The most common reason is that they sell an item that is not in high demand.By doing research to determine which items sell well on eBay and which do not, the problem can be avoided.Research takes a lot of time but it is time well spent.

Reason 2: The opening bid price is too high.
Another reason why people fail at eBay is pricing.Your reserve price and opening bid price are two completely different things. You should always keep your opening bid price under $50, no matter what your reserve price is.A low opening bid price attracts bidders to your auction.A too high opening bid price scares ways potential bidders from your auction.A lack of research is also

Reason 3: Lack of research.
This is also a pricing problem. Before setting the reserve price, you need to determine what the item is really worth. What has similar items been sold for on eBay in the past?

Reason 4: Poorly written descriptions.
Misspelled words and poor grammar is a reason why your eBay auctions fail, they drive people away.Your sales copy on eBay is a well written description of the item and a good picture of the item.

Reason 5: Shipping prices.
People are scared of high shipping prices, you need to find the lowest shipping prices available. The most successful sellers at eBay pay for the shipping them selves and do not charge handling fees. You could consider paying for the shipping if it does not cut into your profits too much.

Besides the reasons above, always offer quality customer service for all your eBay auctions and ask your buyers to give you feedback. If the items you sell are everything you said they would be, you will receive good feedback. This will help you a lot with future auctions and will increase your profits.
