I try to write my own articles for the sites I am most familiar with, which are my hobby blogs but I have other domains that I just don’t have the knowledge level yet to keep writing so outsourcing is vital to their success.
I agree that article outsourcing doesn’t have to expensive. Heck if I buy an article for $10.00 it can be drawing target traffic that earns me a whole lot more than that initial $10.00 investment, for years to come.
I currently have just over 20 blogs but I only write my own articles for 5 or 6 of those, the rest I have to content elsewhere because I am not skilled or familiar enough to write my own at this time.

Beware, some article writers scrape plagiarise and copy. It is easy to find yourself on the wrong end of a takedown notification and I know many of my clients sites have had copy ripped off in this way.
Write a cast iron contract, insist on original content and ensure the contractor is willing to take responsibility for the quality of his work.
You get what you pay for though, a good article writer may charge more but it is worth it in the long run.
