Monetize Your Blog Content With Kontera
January 5, 2009 by Tom Lindstrom · 7 Comments
Kontera offers a new way for you to monetize your blog.Kontera is a contextualized ad service that places content links to relevant ads inside your blog content. With in-text advertising, the advertisers brand is linked to a relevant keyword appearing in the content which is then matched to the advertisers ad.The content link will be visible to the visitor only as a link in your blog content and there will be no banners or ad units to clutter up your site.
If you are using Google Adsense at the moment, you can also start using Kontera because these two are fully compatible and complement each other.(Google changed their terms of service.)
Kontera uses an algorithm and other technology to figure out what your content is a about and highlights some of the words in your all ready written content.Only when the visitor places the mouse over a highlighted word in the blog content, will a small box appear with more information. The ad disappears when the mouse is removed from the link or the ad is clicked on.
As an example, let´s say your blog post is about Acer laptop computers.Kontera might highlight the words “Acer” and “computer” at some points in your post.If the visitor wanted to know more about these topics, all he would do is bring the mouse over a highlighted word and an advertisement would appear. If the ad is interesting enough he would click and you would earn a commission.
Kontera automatically chooses the highest paying ads for your site, the ads are unobtrusive because users don´t see them unless they want to, and the ads are very targeted too.Basically, all you need to do is sign up, place the code on your blog and you are done.
Kontera also offers an affiliate program. To be accepted you will need to be a publisher who has run contentlink ads for 3 months, have a revenue of $100 or more each month and have a good standing in Kontera. When a new publisher signs up through your affiliate link, you will receive a referral bonus of 10% of their net revenue for the first year with Kontera.
Kontera has also a special “invite a friend” program where you will earn $25 for each friend you bring and becomes an active Kontera publisher.
These are the rules that apply when I write this article, but often rules change at some point so I recommend visiting Kontera to be sure.

I use Kontera on some of my blogs alongside Adsense and although the earnings are not as high as adsense, it still adds to the total revenue of the blog, and like they say, ‘every little bit helps’.

Hi Sire, thanks for commenting.I have the same thing, I earn a lot more with adsense than with kontera. It´s good to have several income streams and perhaps kontera earnings will pick up over time.
It’s funny you should say that. There are times when adsense is down and Kontera picks up a bit, or even Chitika, the main thing is that if I relied on adsense alone, then the total monthly income would not be what it is. Now, there is no sense in that, is there?
