While everything you said here sounds useful, I still didn’t feel like I could actually write a good resource box, until I saw your TIP (look at ones that would cause you to want to click through, then model their characteristics). That one piece of advice made it worth all the time it took me to wade through the search engine results and discover this article.

Thanks for the post. I’m, from now on, adopting a proper attitude to the resouce box. Nothing kills an article surer than the last minute resouce box – to my mind it is more important than the article body.
