Suffering From Information Overload?
May 27, 2008 by Tom Lindstrom
Are you suffering from information overload from time to time? I sure am.It´s important to know what can be done to prevent it.As a home business blogger I have to keep up with all the emails, RSS feeds, new content creating, learning new things and loads more on a daily basis and with all this information it is difficult to make clear and accurate decisions and it also increases the stress levels.
To cut down on the information overload I have done the following:
I read all emails in the morning and reply to people, and delete all spam. The next time I read my email is once during the day and before turning off the computer in the evening. You really don´t have to login to your email every 5 minutes to see if you have made any sales. The same goes for your traffic stats, check them once per day instead of every hour.
When you work from home on the internet, it is too easy surfing around other sites than concentrating on your work.Think of how much time you spend on irrelevant sites during your working day. It´s fun to spend time on Youtube and other sites, but this will not get your work done.
Setup a time schedule with everything you need done for that day. When you have everything organized it will help to cut down on the stress. For instance, If you need to write a new blog post or article, then **DO THAT** and nothing else. The point is to really focus on the task at hand and do the best possible job you can.Take a short break once in a while, it will help to focus.
Are you suffering from information overload and how do you cure it? Leave a comment.

There are tools like Filtrbox that help with information overload because they bring you a daily briefing of information in the morning that fits into your workflow nicely. Rather than spending time surfing around trying to find out what’s going on as it relates to your business, Filtrbox searches for you and delivers it to you via an email or RSS. Its mean for tracking explicit things like companies, products, a specific political candidate, etc. rather than broad-based topical news…so you can read what matters most to you in the morning and be “in the know”.
Hi there,
for that reason, I have recently started a blog which is devoted to the subject of information overload and how to deal with it. You can reach it at http://www.managingio.com.
Comments are always welcome!
