Are You Blogging For Money?

By Tom | May 13, 2008

Have you started a blog simply to make money from it, or are you blogging to help other people find information about a topic you know a lot about? People start blogs every day and are quickly finding that it can be quite profitable.Thousands of bloggers all around the world are .The income varies from a few dollars a week to several thousand dollars per day!

I don´t recommend blogging just for money. When you choose a topic that you like, you will most likely write about it for a long time.A blog needs time to grow and your income will grow with it when more and more people find it on the internet. The more you market your blog, the more traffic it gets.(Web2.0 is one of the best ways to market a blog.)

Personally, I blog about home business opportunities and marketing techniques.I did not start just for the money.I like what I do, and research the internet to find the most effective ways to market a business online and other home business related things that I blog about daily.

It is important that a blog has several income streams, you cannot rely on just one.Choose a few good ones but not too many, a blog that is mostly advertisements will look unprofessional and scare away your visitors. We need to find a balance between the information on the blog and the advertising.

My blog revenue comes from the following programs:

Google Adsense:
This is probably the most common way to monetize a blog.Google places ads on your blog that are related to your content. When someone clicks on the ads, you will get paid. This can be a good money maker if you play by the rules.(I recently read an excellent ebook about Adsense that boosted my income from it.)

Before joining Adsense you must read the terms of service. The Inside Adsense blog has a lot of information, I recommend checking it regularly because the terms change from time to time.

Text Link Ads:
Text link ads is a program where you sell text link ads relevant to the content of your site. You earn a monthly income depending on your Google Pagerank, Alexa ranking, and several other factors.

Affiliate Programs:
I´m a member of Strong Future International (SFI) which is one of the most respects MLM programs with a 20 year track record.

There are so many ways to , but the important thing is to choose monetizing that is related to your blog.Your reputation is also on the line, so it pays to choose respected opportunities to your blog.If your blog is about home business opportunities, ebooks and memberships to different resources can be good choices.I also recommend you add a few affiliate programs to the mix, which can make a nice residual income for you over time.

I also recommend reviewing sites and software through review me and sponsored reviews, it can get you quite a good sum of money. Project Wonderful also works for my site.Great article though!

Kudos on the article. It’s unbelievable how many people start blogging for just the money - and the extents they’ll go to get just a bit of it.

Contrary to what Eerik believes, I find that sponsored reviews are going to kill your blog. It’s difficult to resist, because it’s a great way to monetize your blog - but it does two things: ruins your credibility (due to conflict of interest) and also, apparently, Google will take you off their listings (or push you down a bit).

I’ve fallen into this trap, but I’ve been able to scratch my way back out - if you’re really passionate about what you do, do it for free - that way, readers will believe that you’re more objective and “not getting paid off”.
