How To Avoid Getting Scammed Online

September 26, 2007 by Tom Lindstrom

There are many online work at home opportunities available to you on the internet, some of them are perfectly legal and many people earn a full-time income from them which is great. However, just like with anything else online, some of the opportunities are just too good to be true. There are several things that you can do to avoid getting scammed out of your money and hard work online. Here are a few things you can do to try determine if a business opportunity is a scam.

The most important thing is always to do your research when you are on the look for a suitable work at home opportunity.Use the search engines to make a quick search about the business to see if something suspicious comes up. You should try to avoid people who send you emails from a free email address, unless they include a lot of business information that you can check and verify.

You have probably heard of the “Nigerian letters”, which comes in dozens of varieties.I get at least one of these emails weekly, where I get promised several millions of dollars for transferring money to a bank account. This obviously is a scam, but many unsuspecting people may fall for it. Business opportunities that play by the rules never send out spam because it simply is illegal.

Visit online forums which discuss online opportunities to see if something comes up. Ask questions to members of these forums about their experiences, if they have been paid and so on.You can also send an email directly to the company, and ask for more information. This can help you determine if it is something you want to get into.

You can check if the business is listed on BBB (Better Business Bureau), which is an organization to protect consumers online. If the business is listed on BBB you can be sure that this business is legal and you will get paid for your work. Just do your research carefully, and it will save you a lot of time and money.

If you are on the look for opportunities that are proven and reliable, I recommend taking a look at the resources page of my blog.

    Hi,

It is really alarming that there a lot of work at home business opportunity scams out there. It is difficult to tell the legit and the scam. The usual victims of these scams are those people who are just about to start their own home business.

I recommend doing extensive research about the kind of business you want to start and ask for people’s opinion.
