There Is Money To Be Made On eBay

January 15, 2008 by Tom · 4 Comments

Garage sales and flea markets are so 20th century. Today, if you have stuff to peddle, just sell it on eBay. You’ll be joining thousands of other like-minded people who seek to make money selling their wares on the popular web site, there is money to be made on eBay. Since everyone is hip to the online selling gravy train, you’ll need to make your items stand out in order to make more money on eBay.

Sizing up the Competition:
You need to size up your competition before you list your items for auction, you can do this by checking out the completed items listing at eBay.Here, you’ll see what products are up for sale, their prices, and how they are presented. You might also get a better idea on how to title your product to produce a higher price. It is important not to overload the auction site with items. Selling just a few items at the time on eBay auctions will put more money in your pocket.

Describing Your Items:
The product information area has limited space, so you need to write a very good description in a few words. Avoid words like “Look”, or “Wow” in the title of your auction title, because no one types in these words to do a search. You need to use words that potential buyers actually search for. Pay attention to the auction description and make it as good as possible.Include information that potential buyers might find useful, for example product details. If you have a picture of the item you are selling, even better!

Shipping News:
Your aim is to make more money on eBay, so high shipping costs may turn off the buyers. So, don’t tack on too high shipping/handling costs for your auctions. The buyer can get a better deal from another seller.

eBay Auction Support:
eBay provides sellers with several tools to help them navigate the auction process. Automated listing tools allows sellers to post additional listings without going through the “Sell Your Item” process every time. With eBay’s Turbo Lister, you can sell your wares without having to visit the web site – and it’s free. If you are selling a very expensive item, it may be beneficial to purchase an auction upgrade from eBay. These upgrades generate more potential buyers. However, the cost of auction upgrades will eat up the profit on lower priced items.

Selling The Right Items:
Another way to make more money on eBay is to have unique, high quality items for sale.Estate sales are great places to find specialty items such as antiques, vintage clothing, and jewelry. You may also find a few nuggets from liquidators who purchase discontinued or last season’s merchandise from manufacturers and retailers.

I recently wrote an article called “eBay guide for stay at home moms“.It is a newbie guide for people interested in starting a home based business selling items on eBay.

  1. I love eBay and used it to fund a fly-in fishing trip to northern Quebec.

I must agree that when people up the shipping it turns off potential buyers. A good reason for everyone buying on eBay to check out the shipping costs. It somehow just seems dishonest, doesn’t it.

Hi James, I mostly promote e-products because there is no postage & shipping costs and e-products fit better in my “product line”.
