This is a great article. I am a big fan of wordpress and it really is nothing without the plugins. Like anything else in, you really need to customize it and make it your own. If clients see that you put time and effort into your site it will increase traffic.

There is no single solution. Some people will advice you to do SEO, advertising, blogging on a related topic, forums, communities etc, but I will advise you to throw the kitchen sink at it.

Instant Slideup is also another great plug-in, in addition to Action Popup. Our tests show that it’s less obtrusive, but just as good.

I use akismet – which deletes 90% of the crappy spam comments that I get. I also now use Zemanta, and All in One SEO. I am beginning to see some difference with the All in One SEO. Wordpress has come a long way from 2005, that’s for sure. It has surpassed many blogging platforms that were heads above wordpress. I am looking for a good membership plugin however

Lists of wordpress plug ins are all well and good but too many people overdo them. It usually results in a slow loading site and one that has a cluttered appearance.

KEEP IT SIMPLE and only use a plug in if you really need to.

There is a great tag displaying wordpress plugin in which your tags rotate around an invisible sphere. The size is controllable and so you can display your tags without using up great chunks of the sidebar.

I’d recommend it – its called WP Cumulus

I like all the plugins you have mentioned. I use most of them myself. The one I do not use is the Feedburner Feedsmith, and I’m going to have to check it out. Also I use the Platinum SEO Pack instead of the All in One (just my preference).

Thanks for the tidy little list, I am just about to go and try the free traffic plugin which I had no idea about!

I use a few of the other plugins you mentioned, the biggest saviour was the wordpress backup. 4 days after I installed it and backed up I lost a vast majority of one of my blogs, luckily I was able to sort it all out pretty hassle free.

The SEO plugin also works wonders. I have found my posts getting indexed much quicker and higher thanks to this piece of kit.

A very warm thank you from me!

be careful on how you use these plugins, if wordpress see anything similar to an abuse from any of the plugins like “TweetMeme Retweet Button” they will bann your wordpress blog without much chances of regaining access to it.

thanks for the article !

All-In-One SEO, of course. But no-one has mentioned WP Minor Edit – which lets you make adjustments to a post without re-pinging when you re-publish. Use it all the time.

Hey There Tlmarketing,
On a similar note, The WordPress platform owes a lot of its popularity to the availability of thousands of plugins that perform any function a site owner may need. Simply put if you need to do something there is probably an existing plugin to do it. But what are the security risks that come with installing WordPress plugins? I will tie these threats to the central principles of information security which include Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability.
Nice One!

A word press website is good but then you are also required to back it up with with some plugins for it to serve you well. Some plugins like those that prevent spam are a must have. The others you have mentioned are also of great importance but it all depends on what the owner wants. .
