Blogging For A Living

August 28, 2008 by Tom Lindstrom · 23 Comments

, is it really possible? Over the years, the internet has continuously evolved and grown. It seems as if every year something new comes up that is the new hit online.Although blogs have been around for quite some time now, it seems as if blogging has become the new trend on the internet of late.

There are a number of benefits to having your own blog and running it as a career. Many people are blogging for a living because of how easy it is and how beneficial it can be for you and any business or web sites you may have.

Perhaps the best thing about blogging is that you have total control over what happens. You can say whatever you want, start any type of conversation you like, and change the direction of the conversation at any time. Many people like the freedom and ability to do whatever they feel like with blogs.

In addition, many like the fact that it is much less formal and more conversational. You can still act professional, but you do not necessarily have to be in sells mode the entire time. You can be more relaxed and just go with the flow.It may seem ridiculous that you can actually make money and make a living out of something so casual, but that is exactly what attracts so many people to this.

Part of having complete control with a blog comes the ability to customize the blog however you want. You can create whatever design you choose to, do whatever font and style you wish, and change the entire page however many times you want. There is no one to tell you how to run your blog.

The biggest perk of them all, though, is the SEO elements that are related to blogging, in fact, many people say that blogging is the best SEO tool. This is where people are capable of doing this for a living. In order to optimize your blog for the search engines, you simply have to install and activate the appropriate SEO related plug-ins.These can help you climb up on the search engines and get your blog seen by hundreds of thousands of internet surfers.

From there, you can run your blog however you want and have people flowing in to see what else you have to say.The best part about blogging is that it can be considered a career, but it is enjoyable at the same time.It seems more like a hobby than a job for most people. And for that very reason, people are blogging for a living more and more every day.

You can make blogging into a full time job for your self. You must learn how to start a blog and learn how to market it successfully.

Great post Tom. Blogging brought the joy back into online marketing for me personally.

The only thing I would add to your post would be not to go with a free service for your blog. Spend the money and purchase your own domain.

When I was using Blogger.com I was always hearing of people that would be shut down. I even had an experience where they were going to shut me down because they thought the blog was automated, they didn’t but that’s how quickly it could happen.

All that work would have been gone, so I started a hosting account where I can host many domains from one account.

Keep up the great job Tom

Now I have numerous blogs and they are totally under my control.

I think people now are finding easier to make money online then to make make money offline. I mean it’s easier now to run your own business from your home then spending 1000s of dollars and running it from an office. It’s all about the money, and I think blogging is fun!

  5. Hi Sarah, I agree. It is simple and cheap to start an online business, you need no office, no staff, and the commute is about 30 seconds instead of an hour in traffic.Blogging is still hard work, it is often much harder than having a normal day job.

Very nice summary of features and benefits, Tom. There is also the benefit that the process of posting daily or even not so frequently is a great discipline for improving your writing. For people who are self-conscious about their ability to write and perhaps daunted by the advice of all the copywriting experts online, I ask whether they ever send an email. They always answer yes. I say, then you can blog: just imagine you are sending an email to a friend, but remember it will be read by many people (you hope!) so be as clear as you can about what you want to say.

  7. Hi Des, thanks for stopping by.I agree that you should only post when you can come up with something good and interesting, it builds up discipline. Also, blogging is about writing your own thoughts and you cannot possibly please everyone. That´s why commenting on blogs is for :)

I am runnnig about 10 blogs at this moment and i am of the view you need to spend a lot of time on blogs to get some thing out of it. Mor you add content more you earn.

  9. Hi T Miller, you need useful content that your visitors appreciate. It takes time to produce good content.

  10. Greg says:

    Hey.

Blogging’s a great way to go. Got a rant? Blog it. Disagree with something in the paper? Blog it. Want to write about your favorite game? Blog it. Want to make money at it? Blog about something where people are buying something related.

I wouldn’t exactly say blogging is harder than holding a real job. Maybe it is at first, for someone that doesn’t know all the intricacies involved.

But after you know what you’re doing, the only difficult part about it is keeping to a schedule and staying disciplined.
